CCC took three of the four overall wins with Kevin Pilley crowned the veteran’s champion and Chris Seviour the top junior – Jemima ‘Jim’ Davis winning the ladies’ class from Velo Sport Jersey.

Despite challenging weather conditions a field of over 70 riders competed in four events including a hill climb, a time trial, track racing and a road race.

Robin Ovenden (CCC) smashed the course record in Thursday night’s Jubilee Hill Climb after a blistering race, most of it out of the saddle, to finish in a remarkable 4.15 min.

Personal bests fell as the field of over 50 riders were assisted by a strong westerly tail wind pushing them up the 1.7 mile course from the Watersplash to the top of Jubilee Hill.

CCC’s Dave Mayman was the fastest vet in a time of 4.41 min, just three seconds ahead of Pilley and Seviour – Davis the top lady in 5.06 min.

After Good Friday’s road race around the Watersplash circuit was cancelled because of high winds and wet conditions, VSJ’s veteran Andy Munns blew away the competition to finish ten seconds clear in Saturday’s time trial.

Riders battled against a strong northerly wind up the Five Mile Road from La Pulente to the top of Mont Pinel and Hydrangea Avenue prior to a wind-assisted return leg.

Munns finished in 23.36 min, leaving CCC’s Island Games senior riders, Cann and Adam Wojtkiewicz, in his wake in second and third place as Pilley finished strongly for fourth. CCC’s Helen Goulding won the ladies’ category, beating Davis by eight seconds.

The circuit race at the Les Quennevais track on Easter Sunday was won by Marc Nicol (CCC) after he outsprinted the field to take victory, closely followed by VSJ’s Scott Pitcher and Cann. A number of veterans stuck with the furious pace and Munns took sixth place, Pilley ninth and VSJ’s Mike Mitchinson tenth.

The final event was the road race around the Bal Tabarin circuit yesterday in which Dan Lowthorpe of CCC took victory after launching a lone breakaway.

He had eked out a lead of over 30 seconds at one point but took the win, by two seconds, from the pursuing bunch in the dash for the line with Cann taking second, Ovenden third and Mitchinson, the first veteran, in fifth.
