Jersey gymnast heads for national finals

Following her win at this Southern Region Club Grades competition, the nine-year-old will now represent the area at the British National Finals in Birmingham at the end of April.

Competing against 46 other gymnasts, from 17 regions, the Regent Gymnast was third overall after the bars, scoring 12.05, and top scored on the beam with 12.20. On the floor she scored 11.60 and her 11.95 on the vault secured the gold medal and overall trophy for an outstanding performance.

The other Regent Gymnastic Club girls also performed well executed routines on the bars with Charlotte’s twin sister, Olivia, scoring an excellent 11.85, Ciara Lambert (11) finishing with 11.15 and Jasmine O’Donoghue (10) scoring 9.80.

On the beam Olivia gave a steady performance for 10.90, Lambert gaining 10.50 and O’Donoghue 10.00. On the floor all the girls performed excellent routines showing some strong tumbling and good choreography, impressing the judges, which was reflected in their scores (O’Donoghue, 11.65, Olivia, 11.20, and Lambert, 10.85).

Strong vaults were produced on the final piece of apparatus with Olivia scoring 11.85 to secure ninth overall, Lambert 11.10 for 22nd overall and O’Donoghue 11.40 for 28th.

At Grade Three, Elizabeth Appleyard was up against 23 gymnasts and the 13-year-old gave a steady all round performance with 12th on the vault (11.60), and tenth on the beam (10.80). A 9.30 on the bars and 10.55 on the floor helped her to a pass for 15th overall.

The other Regent gymnasts were competing against 27 others at Grade Two with Louise Mollet, Charlotte Sweeney and Lisa Day all scoring over 40 marks to pass.

Mollet (11.20, vault, 9.70, bars, 9.60 beam, 10.40 floor) and Sweeney (11.10, vault, 9.25, bars, 11.00, 9.55 floor) shared 15th place with a total score of 40.90 while Lisa Day was 19th overall after scoring 40.10 (10.30 vault, 9.40 bars, 10.50 beam, 9.90 floor).
