The former Highlands student, who is still only 18, was a clear winner by over 1.75 metres with a putt of 18.01 metres.
But although pleased with the end to his indoor season, he was a little frustrated that the layout of the shot putt area had been altered, saying that it had denied him a personal best of over 19 metres.
The shot area was only marked out by the standard diagonal lines up to 15 metres, from where they squeezed up into parallel lines, and three of Stevenson’s shots went just outside the contracted area.
‘That was annoying,’ admitted the young powerhouse, ‘but I’ve got to be happy with the result, particularly as I have had a recurrence of a wrist ligament injury and didn’t think I’d be able to compete.’
It’s now back to building his big frame even bigger as the outdoor season approaches.
‘I’m hoping to hit 20 metres outdoors this season.
I know it’s there
‘I’ve just got to get down to work on my strength, bulk and technique before the season starts.’
Stevenson will next compete in April, with his big aim to clear 19 metres to qualify for the World Junior championships with the Great Britain squad.
