Th?rin and driver Nicola Minichiello make up Great Britain’s No 1 bobsleigh team and their impressive results this season could secure them funding which would allow them to train full-time.

‘Hopefully we will be getting some money now from UK Sport,’ said the 22-year-old.

‘Our performance director has to put a proposal to UK Sport and they will review results and evaluate our potential for winning – fingers crossed it will happen.

We won’t find out until May but it looks quite promising.

‘I suppose it would be a two-year award which takes us through to the next Winter Olympics in 2010 and I would become a full-time athlete.

I’ve done athletics all my life but I don’t think I could do both if that happened.

‘It’s a shame because I’ve made some good friends through athletics, and the CI team are doing well – I’m trying not to think about it at the moment.’
