As reported earlier this week, the 13 year-old struck gold twice on her first day of finals at the Australian all Schools and Youth Athletics Championships, winning the 200m title in an impressive 24.93 seconds and the 4 x 100 relay for New South Wales.

The flying youngster from Heathcote High School struck again later in the four-day meeting at the the Sidney Olympic Park Athletic Centre, this time winning the 100m in 12.34 seconds.

She has been targeted by the NSW Institute of Sport and Athletics to be included in its Track and Field Emerging Athlete Program.

Ella’s parents Julie (nee Thompson) and Steve emigrated to Sydney 20 years ago, but are still frequent visitors to the Island, where Julie’s parents Ann and John Thompson and Steve’s father John still reside.

Steve’s late mother Pamela was born in Australia.

Steve was a talented all-rounder and as a De La Salle pupil broke 31 school, Island and Channel Islands athletic records in the 70s as well as competing at National and European schoolboy level where he won silver and double bronze.

He also played schooboys football for the Island.
