Sir Philip Bailhache repeatedly told the outspoken former Health Minister to sit down before closing the sitting in the middle of his speech.
As Members filed out, Senator Syvret continued to shout, waving his fists and swearing at one Deputy as he tried to calm him down.
Senator Syvret used his traditional Christmas address as Father of the House (the longest-serving Senator) to attack the Jersey ‘establishment’, branding 2008 ‘the most shocking example of communal failure in the entire 800-year history of Jersey’.
Senator Syvret, who was later accused by Chief Minister Frank Walker of abusing his position and may face a censure motion, accused the States of being complicit in covering up ‘decades of child abuse’.
