The Senator has fired Iris Le Feuvre as voluntary chairman of the Jersey Child Protection Committee (JCPC) after learning that a letter in which she called for his resignation had been drafted by one of his own senior officers. The letter, to Chief Minister Frank Walker, criticised the Senator for his outspoken criticism of the children’s service and child protection policies. Senator Syvret now says that letter was a case of officers under fire protecting themselves, and Mrs Le Feuvre should never have put her name to it. Meanwhile, Senator Syvret’s recent behaviour has been referred to the Privileges and Procedures Committee and allegations by a sacked social worker have been rejected. The letter from the JCPC prompted Senator Walker and ministerial colleagues to decide that they will debate a vote of no confidence against Senator Syvret when they return from the summer recess.
