Plans to convert the former school building, which dates back to 1888, and build new apartments and houses on the site were approved by Environment Minister Freddie Cohen today.

A planning hearing was held yesterday, when the main objections to the development were the impact the new houses might have on residents in Drury Lane and the fact that the building would not be open for the public to appreciate.

Plans for the regeneration of the college, which is still owned by the States, have been put together by Grange Developments and architects Axis Mason.

Their original plans had been revised with changes to the appearance of the new apartment block and the position of some of the town houses, following consultation with Save Jersey’s Heritage.

Senator Cohen said today that he would approve the updated plans for the redevelopment subject to a number of conditions
