FINAL preparations are under way for the Jersey premiere screening of the new Bergerac series – that will see the stars of the show descend upon the Island for “a fantastic evening of glitz and glamour” early next week.

The red-carpet event, which is set to take place on Monday, will begin at the Jersey Opera House before moving on to a drinks reception at the Grand Hotel.

The second season of the revamped detective drama is due to air sometime this spring, after the first series drew 2.4 million viewers across U and U&DRAMA last year.

It also follows international sales to a raft of broadcasters, including WOWOW in Japan, NPO in the Netherlands, VRT in Belgium, SVT in Sweden, YLE in Finland, NRK in Norway, DR in Denmark, BBC First in Poland, TVNZ in New Zealand and ABC in Australia.

And more recently it was announced that a deal had also been agreed that will see the show launched on PBS in the United States this year.

Executive producer Brian Constantine said : “We’re now just days away from the Jersey premiere of Bergerac season two, and the excitement on the Island is really building.

“Over the past year we’ve had the privilege of filming across this beautiful Island once again, and it’s only fitting that Jersey, the true home of Bergerac, has the opportunity to celebrate the new series first.”

Mr Constantine added that the upcoming premiere “promises to be a fantastic evening of glitz and glamour”.

“What makes this moment even more special is the incredible support from the island community,” he said.

“Hundreds of Islanders were involved in bringing this series to life, from crew and extras to local businesses and locations, all helping us make the show the very best it can be.

“Thanks to that effort, Bergerac is now enjoying real success around the globe and we’re incredibly proud that it all began, here in Jersey.”
