Gas worker Lee Ward will face a retrial on ten charges of gross negligence manslaughter following the Haut du Mont explosion.
The decision comes after jurors were unable to reach verdicts on the charges against the 59-year-old, which he denies, at the conclusion of the Royal Court trial last week.
The explosion killed ten people on 10 December 2022.
After 28 hours and three minutes of deliberations, the jury could not reach the required majority of at least ten of its members on Mr Ward’s charges.
Commissioner Andrew Oldland gave prosecutors 14 days to decide whether to seek a retrial whilst Mr Ward was released on bail.
In the Royal Court this morning, the Attorney General confirmed he was ordering a retrial of the Island Energy worker.
