Alexis Militis, Liam du Feu and Daniel Halksworth all struck gold at the City of Lincoln Open – and can all be pleased with their form ahead of a selection decision for the Melbourne Games next March.
Militis, who has already registered a time that puts him in line for a place in the 4 x 200 relay team, was using the meet as a fitness check, but returned with gold in both 100 and 50 metres freestyles – being within one per cent of his best in both events.
Given that he was racing at the end of a normal week of training his respective 53.1 sec and 24.2 sec were most encouraging.
Du Feu travelled from Bournemouth where he is studying and enjoyed an tremendous meet, registering three personal bests in gaining a gold and a silver.
He was second to Militis in the 100m free in an excellent 54.40, having clocked 25.72 in the 50m earlier in the meet.
But it was his 1.59.8 for the 200 free that earned him gold, the time making him Jersey’s third man to go under two minutes this season.
This was du Feu’s only chance to get a place on the Jersey Commonwealth Games team as he has concentrated on short course events early in the season.
But he has taken the transfer to long course pool events in his stride.
Halksworth, who has already achieved a Games qualifying time in the 400 individual medley, picked up a silver in the 200 free before taking gold in his favoured 200m IM.
Although struggling with a cold, as well as being in the middle of a very hard training phase with the Coventry squad at university, things look extremely good for him.
All three men are certainly on the right track ahead of the imminent selection meetings.
