The strapping 15-year-old, who won the title last year at U15 level, was denied another crown at the Alexander Stadium, Birmingham, by Elloiot Price (gold) and Mark Townsend (silver) – both of them a year older than the Jersey Spartan boy.
Stevenson, also a winner at the AAAs and Scottish championships last year and a runner-up in the Jeux des Iles in Crete early this summer, threw his 1.50k weight 45.80m to earn bronze, with Price winning with 52.00m.
Jersey’s Becky Slater finished 11th in the javelin with 32.65m, while Sophie Twinam recorded 1.54m in the high jump for 12th place, both in the U17 category.
U15 Gemma Dawkins, the solitary U15 in the party and thus the only one of the four not heading for Shetland, ran well to clock 26.6 sec in her 200m heat.
