A SECTION of Millennium Town Park was barricaded off while work to identify a possibly gas leak was carried out.
Several signs were put up advising people not to smoke in the area while work was being carried out.
Island Energy confirmed that a “gas escape” had been found. It is understood that the leak, which is near the children’s play area, on Sunday.
By Tuesday afternoon, gas engineers were still on site working on the issue.
A statement from Island Energy said: “Following a report from a member of the public, a gas escape was identified in the Millennium Park area of St Helier.
“Our engineers are on site and are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible while ensuring the safety of the surrounding areas.
“We will provide further updates as soon as additional information becomes available.”
Engineers at the site said they were not worried about the situation.
Islanders are asked to call Island Energy’s 24-hour emergency line on 755555 immediately if they smell gas.
