Thérin came fourth overall in Loughborough – finishing only behind three established internationals.

They throw regularly past the magical 50 metre mark and for Thérin even to be competing with such individuals is a measure how much she has improved since leaving the Island to study at university in Cardiff last September.

But her personal best of 47.25 metres falls just shy of the 48 metre qualifying mark for the European Championships.

Thérin is so close – and she is confident she will measure up in time.

‘I’m sure it’s going to come at some point because I’m so close,’ she said.

‘Since I came to Cardiff I’ve been training six days a week and had a lot of support from my coaches,’ she said.

‘The facilities are first class.

We’ve got an indoor 200 metre running track, an indoor gym and a swimming pool in the complex.

‘Now I can see what I’ve produced I’m believing in myself.

‘Sunday was a great experience.

There was no way I was going to get into the top three but to compete in the same field was ace and I think it spurred me on.

I beat all the other girls and I was less nervous than the first time represented Great Britain.

‘Fingers crossed, I’ll be going to Lithuania and I’m confident I can throw 48 metres,’ she added.
