WEEK 7 UPDATE
Welcome to the weekly update of the Ashburton Jersey School’s Investment Challenge.
The equity market rally in January has stalled in recent weeks as rate hike concerns, mixed corporate earnings and geopolitical tensions weigh on investor sentiment.
For the budding asset managers, equity portfolios have seen a decline in values as expected. The top four teams remain the same as last week with Victoria College now occupying the top two positions – ‘BSG Investments’ holding in top position still, even allowing for a 3% decline in their portfolio compared to last week.

Beaulieu’s ‘The 5 Musketeers’ have moved up to third place and has displaced JCG’s ‘MOTA’. A special mention must also go to Beaulieu’s ‘8Eyes’ whose portfolio returned +5% for the week – impressive given that over 80% of the competition’s portfolios produced negative returns!
At school level, Highlands extend their lead at the top with an average year-to-date return of 15.15%, Victoria College remain in second place and Beaulieu have displaced JCG in third following strong performance from two of their teams.
The stand-out individual stock pick for the week was Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC, returning 17.61% for the week following strong EPS and sales results published on Thursday – Well done to DLS Geckos, 8Eyes and Stocks & Blocks for holding it!
