Senator Sir Philip Bailhache says that Jersey needs either to develop a stronger and more independent personality or to face up to the idea of being ‘a satellite of the UK’ unable to challenge assaults on the Island’s industries and ability to make its own decisions.
In recent weeks the UK has moved to shut down or curtail the fulfilment industry, online gaming, offshore property, international pensions and the Channel Islands’ ability to produce our own passports.
And Senator Bailhache – the former Bailiff now serving as Assistant Chief Minister with responsibility for international relations – said that States Members and Islanders had to address the issue of where Jersey stood.
