Specialist sonar equipment to be used in search for missing man

Open land searches and other inquiries were due to resume again this morning after they were scaled down overnight and although the police say the chances of finding Mr Lynch alive are unlikely they are still holding out hope.

On Tuesday, police said they received information regarding another possible sighting of the 20-year-old, who had been at a work Christmas party on Friday night, in the current search area.

The dedicated command post for the multi-agency co-ordinated searches has now been moved to the grounds of Tamba Park from the car park at David Hicks Antiques.

Detective Chief Inspector Lee Turner, who is leading the investigation, said work yesterday had involved police dogs, dive teams and shallow water searches.

‘Open land searches will resume again in the daylight hours, as well as potential searches using sonar equipment,’ he said.

‘Adrian has now been missing for coming up to four days and the chances of finding him alive are unlikely, however officers and volunteers continue to search the areas he was last seen.

‘A further possible sighting has been called in to police today in the area of the search.

‘The command post for all emergency vehicles has now been moved to the grounds of Tamba Park from David Hick Antiques who have kindly let us take over their car park for the past few days.’

Mr Lynch’s belt, phone and wallet have been recovered.

On Tuesday night, senior police officers, staff from the Fire and Rescue Service, Ambulance and Search and Rescue met at police headquarters for a gold-command meeting to discuss the next phase of the operation.

The Fire and Rescue Service yesterday cancelled all non-urgent work and called in off-duty firefighters to provide the maximum amount of staff possible to assist in the search.

Mr Lynch, who was dropped off by a taxi in the area of Six Roads in St Lawrence at around midnight between Friday and Saturday, is described as having a slim to proportionate build with short, straight black hair and is of Asian appearance.

He was last seen wearing a light blue suit and a white shirt. Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 612612.
