A ST Saviour Deputy is to seek a fourth term.
Deputy Louise Doublet, who has previously been an Assistant Education and Assistant Home Affairs Minister, was elected at the first time of asking in 2014 and subsequently re-election in 2018 and 2022.
Most recently, she has chaired the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel as well as the Assisted Dying Review Panel.
She said: “As a former teacher, if I am re-elected I will continue to be driven by my consistent commitment to children and families. When I held ministerial responsibility in this area, I built a strong foundation of improving early years policies by initiating a plan to address childcare concerns which included start up and resource grants to childminders and nurseries, and expanded funded nursery hours for 2- and 3-year-olds. I was part of the ministerial team that introduced hot lunches in all our Primary Schools.
“As chair of the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel, I have highlighted health inequalities which disproportionately impact older islanders, women and disabled people. Successful amendments to the recent budget included a women’s health strategy, a preventative health roadmap, and expanding funded healthy school meals to include a wider range of families; I would like to continue driving these forward.”
She added that Islanders are “struggling with many challenges” citing the cost-of-living crisis, mental health, loneliness and increased care needs.
“I recognise it is not just those on the lowest incomes who need support – many of these apply to middle Jersey and beyond,” she continued. “I have the tenacity and depth of knowledge to be part of tackling these challenges in an ethical and fair way that enables individuals, families, businesses and communities to flourish.
“I believe that we have the perfect foundation in our parish system to support each other at a community level. Over the campaign period I will be visiting Parishioners at home and at candidate events, to hear more about what you want from life in Jersey. “
Deputy Doublet becomes the fourth candidate to declare for St Saviour Deputy after fellow incumbents Deputies Malcolm Ferey and Raluca Kovacs and accountant Chris Leck.
“Over my 12 years as a States Member I have gained significant experience in steering the drafting, scrutiny and implementation of complex bodies of legislation,” she said. “I take an intelligent, evidence-based approach to all my work and I am a vocal and effective advocate for marginalised Islanders.
“It has been a privilege to represent St Saviour and I am committed to doing so with the same compassion and integrity I have demonstrated in my three terms of office so far. I would be grateful for your support during my campaign and on 7 June.”
Polling day will be held on a Sunday – the first time a Jersey election has been held at the weekend.
