From Richard Cole.
I WRITE in reference to the front-page article (JEP 2 September) headlined: ‘Future-hospital plan “no longer feasible”’.
Thankfully, the public have elected sensible politicians who are prepared to look at the practical and monetary implications involved in continuing the hospital folly.
I find it disturbing, but not surprising, that Deputy Lyndon Farnham casts aspersions on Deputy Tom Binet’s integrity in leading this inquiry. The ex-minister rode roughshod over the Island with responsibility for decisions costing millions.
Deputy Farnham refers to the democratic vote in the Assembly. I would suggest they were misled at the least regarding the implications of cost and destruction of the Westmount area to achieve possibly the most expensive moderate-sized hospital in the world. The Members who did query this were brushed aside. Nothing democratic there, Deputy Farnham. I would expect something could be saved from the millions wasted, together with the £43 million flagged up for the destruction of Westmount area to pay off contracts probably signed hastily by the same people who signed off Charlie Parker’s ridiculous payment.
