For the first time in its five-year history, the event, due to take place on Saturday 7 September, is being held at Jardins de la Mer on the Waterfront.

Director Christian May said that this change was due to feedback from previous Pride events where it was felt that there was not enough space to walk around and no areas to sit down apart from at bars.

The new location, Mr May says, improves accessibility for disabled people, which is a ‘top priority following some access difficulties in previous years’.

A silent disco sponsored by the Royal Bank of Scotland as well as a ‘drag race’ – drag queens racing along the beach – is also planned.

Local acts Sister Disco and Inside Job are among the performers due to entertain.

LGBT author and YouTube star Ollie Pike, who runs the online channel Pop’n’Olly, which addresses LGBT matters for young people, is also due to attend.

Mr Pike has written children’s books, such as The Prince and the Frog: A Story to Help Children Learn about Same-Sex Relationships, and it is hoped he will give both a reading and a talk at this year’s event.

Mr May, who is directing the event for the fourth year, said the experience had been ‘hugely rewarding’.

Pride is free to attend. Those interested in taking part in this year’s march should meet at the Royal Square at 1pm. The procession will then make its way down King Street before travelling through the Esplanade car park to the Freedom Tree, by the Radisson Blu hotel, where the Pride flag will be unveiled. The march is due to finish at Jardins de la Mer where various activities are due to take place.
