During the summer, the number of drink-drivers tends to rise with barbecues and parties taking place.
The police are now joining a nationwide clampdown on drink-drivers with a campaign running until Sunday.
States police have said they often get tip-offs about drink-drivers and there was a simple message that this behaviour would not be tolerated.
Inspector Paul Ryan said: ‘In an ideal world, the number of people drink-driving would be zero, but being realistic we know it is still happening.
‘There is no excuse any more to drive while drunk. There are other options to get you home after drinking. If you’re going out, and you know you’ll be drinking, make plans to get home, book a taxi, get a friend to be a designated driver, arrange a lift or get the bus. The risks just aren’t worth taking. If you know someone is driving while drunk, call us and tell us. These drivers are putting us all at risk. The simple answer is, if you intend to drink any alcohol, just don’t drive.’
Between June and August 2016, 48 drivers were reported for drink-driving. This dropped to 30 in 2017 and 25 last year.
People are also warned to be careful the morning after drinking. Officers from all forces are due to conduct road checks in various locations during the campaign.
