The last States sitting of the current Assembly is scheduled for Tuesday 10 April, although some propositions are set to be taken the day before to enable the States to finish its business before the Senatorial nominations night.

That meant that Tuesday was the last day for ministerial propositions to be lodged in time for debate before the election. Backbenchers have an extra two weeks to lodge propositions.

Nominations night for Senatorial candidates is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 10 April, with nominations for Deputies and Constables taking place the following evening.

Among the propositions lodged were Chief Minister Ian Gorst’s proposals to strengthen confiscation laws for property derived from criminal activity, while Home Affairs Minister Kristina Moore has lodged amendments
to the explosives law which include provisions to limit when people can let off fireworks and how many can be used.

There are also formal proposals lodged to extend pub licensing hours on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 May to celebrate the Royal wedding between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, to introduce an opt-out organ donation system in the Island and to update Jersey’s mental health laws.

A ceremonial States sitting, where no public business will be discussed, is due to be held on Liberation Day. The election is due to be held on Wednesday 16 May.
