The annual Three Bells Walk was created following Jersey’s liberation from French Occupation in 1468. At the time, churches in St Ouen, St Mary and St Peter rang their church bells continuously for 24 hours to mark the occasion.

Islanders are encouraged to meet at St Ouen’s church car park at 8.45 am on Sunday before setting off on the six-mile charity walk between the three parishes. The walk, organised by historian Frank Falle, costs £10 and money raised will be donated to Variety, the Children’s Charity. A festive lunch will also be offered at the Prince of Wales pub in Grève de Lecq, at a cost of £26.50.

Those wanting to take part are asked to email Mr Falle at fallefr@yahoo.com to confirm their attendance.

Meanwhile, this year’s Battle of Jersey walk, again organised by Mr Falle, is due to take place on Saturday 6 January starting from St Martin’s church. The walk will follow the route taken by the parish militia to town on 6 January 1781 to combat the French invasion. The walk finishes in the Royal Square, where the annual live creation of John Singleton Copley’s the Death of Major Pierson is set to take place.

Anyone who would like to join the walk is asked to meet at the church at 8.30 am for a 9 am start.
