The St Ouen seabird has been causing mayhem by dive-bombing runners and walkers and stealing people’s hats and the Environment Department had said the gull would be shot or trapped and killed.

However, on Twitter TV naturalist Chris Packham joined growing calls from Islanders, who have generated a 1,000-signature strong petition, for the States to save the bird.

Now, Environment Minister Steve Luce has said that Gulliver will ‘certainly not’ be killed.

A States Tweet says: ‘Environment Minister @DeputySteveLuce says no official decision has been taken over “Gulliver” the seagull: “No action will be taken until I have been given a full briefing, we will certainly not be killing the seagull.” Deputy Luce will discuss the issue with officers on Monday.’
