Jersey U14 Netball inter-insular squad

JERSEY yet again showed their dominance in the age-group inter-insular’s, to highlight the netball production line is in safe hands for years to come.

At Beau Sejour, the U16s came out firing and took an early seven-goal lead. Grace Thomson and Lara Spary played a rotational circle and Guernsey had trouble stopping them.

As the scoreline grew, so did the confidence. They played with freedom in attack through Lara Vieira and Isabella Lofthouse, off-footing the defence and feeding the circle with ease.

A fearlessness in defence from Lofthouse, Molly Mckeon, Florence Allo and Summer Watkins, kept Guernsey to just four goals in the second and third quarters.

At half-time, the score was 37-10 to Jersey and they continued to pile on misery.

Impact players Scarlett Crow, Poppy Hughes and Emily Dove entered the fray.

The fresh legs and skill set of these players saw the girls in red continue to soar.

When all was said and done, the Caesareans finished 50 goals ahead – 71-21 the final scoreline.

Player of the Match was awarded to GA/GS Thomson.

Elsewhere, the U14s also led early and never looked back.

They capitalised on errors made by Guernsey, with turnovers and rebounds aplenty in the defensive circle, well-timed movement through court, and clinical shooting.

All players took to the court and impacted the game, showing off their versatility and ability to adapt to changes under pressure.

Guernsey had a strong through-court attack, but the Jersey squad remained calm, worked together, and took a deserved 41-22 win.

Player of the Match was the fantastic mid-courter and captain, Lola Reynolds.

Jersey fledgling U12s were also keen to show what they could do.

It was a slow start to the game as the visitors took a little while to find their feet.

Going into the second quarter, some calm and clinical shooting from Libby Parris and Kacey O’Connor saw Jersey begin to build their lead.

This was aided by some brilliantly timed interceptions from the defensive unit of Prises Grenyer and Scarlett Murphy.

The reds began to consistently turn over balls, linking well with some great circle feeds from Amelia Smyth and Amelia Gaudian.

At half-time Winnie Young took the centre bib, and controlled the pace of the game with a calm head and was fundamental in extending Jersey’s lead.

Hâf Rasmussen and Milli Renouf both working tirelessly in WD to shut down their opposition and create turnovers.

At the end of the third quarter, Jersey had a strong lead. Ellie Herbert took to the court as GK and came out with some incredible flying interceptions.

A complete team effort saw Jersey take the win 30-10.

Player of the Match went to captain Grenyer.

The old adage that defence wins games was on full display in the U11s.

From the first whistle, Jersey fought for each other to keep the ball safe and remembered what they were taught: “Is it my ball, is it my space, is it my turn?”

The ball flowed down the court from Mille Painter to Alice Larnder and smoothly transitioned into the shooting circle to Ruby Noon (GS) and Bea Williams (GA), who both showed their shooting abilities with glowing confidence.

The team’s control down the court set them worlds apart from Guernsey and, after the first quarter, the Caesareans had a strong lead.

Bobbi Billington showed competitive spirit with interceptions as Guernsey attacked. Equally, Theadora Irvine (GK) and Hannah Munro (GD) proved a potent defensive duo.

At half-time, Kiki Gomes (GA) was ready to unleash her shooting prowess and, in the final quarter, Isabella Harvey (WA) continued the hard work on court, with strong attacking drive and safety with the ball.

Incredibly, the Caesareans limited Guernsey to just three points, finishing on 22 themselves, as captain Williams was presented with Player of the Match.
