Team Jets start on a high

Team Jets begin their 2022/23 season at Pinehurst

TEAM JETS travel to England to battle through their first regional league double-header this weekend – and will face their ‘nemesis’ along the way.

The Island club begins its South West Division I campaign having spent the summer under new leadership, in the shape of former England captain Serena Kersten, and coach Linda Andrews says confidence is high.

Jets open their account against newly-promoted Pinehurst today, before meeting arch rivals Hucclecote Comets tomorrow. Hucclecote Stars, as they were named last season, finished 40-39 up on the first day of the 2021/22 season.

‘We haven’t played Pinehurst for a little while, so we’re excited to have another team to challenge ourselves against,’ said Andrews. ‘And Hucclecote are our nemesis. Losing that game by one goal last year is still a hard thing to take, and that was the first weekend of the season as well.

‘But we are in such a strong position now and everybody is so confident. While we will be missing few people, like Leah [Griffin] and Molly [Carré], everyone is super confident and we can’t wait to see what a difference this pre-season has made. It has been really exciting with Serena coming back and actually leading, with her knowledge and all the new things that she’s brought in to the programme.

‘There is a real buzz.’
