A DRUNK man who claimed to be a detective in the “drug force” and used a fake police badge as his phone lock screen has been fined £5,400.
Steven Price (56) previously pleaded guilty to impersonating a police officer and driving without a valid licence when he appeared in the Magistrate’s Court on 24 September.
The IT consultant, who has lived in Jersey since February 2025, also pleaded guilty to charges of breaching the peace and using an unregistered vehicle.
He returned to court for sentencing on Thursday.
Advocate Kate Ridley, prosecuting, said Price approached a man in January while in the company of a then-serving police officer.
Price claimed that he was a detective constable and asked the man: “I am a police officer, do you have anything you shouldn’t have?”
When challenged, he replied: “I am a police officer in the drug force and I am doing an investigation.”
Advocate Ridley also said Price created a police badge on his phone and temporarily used it as his lock screen.
Advocate Adam Harrison was defending and Relief Magistrate Rebecca Morley-Kirk was presiding.
