A BUSY week across the Jersey Combination leagues produced goals, hat-tricks and several notable comebacks, with sides in the Premiership, Championship and women’s divisions all making their mark.

Premiership 1

In Premiership 1, Grouville delivered the standout scoreline of the round, sweeping aside St Ouen’s 6-0 in a statement away performance.

Harrison Moon was in irresistible form, firing a hat-trick with goals either side of the interval, striking in minutes 28, 35 and 51.

Andre Nunes set the tone with a strike inside three minutes before adding his second on 54 minutes, while Robert Martins-Figuera rounded off the win late on.

This win continues Grouville’s recent momentum and leaves St Ouen’s searching for answers after a difficult afternoon, as the sides are now level on seven points after seven games.

Premiership 2

Premiership 2 brought yet more firepower from Rozel Rovers, who brushed past Dragoes de Jersey for the third time this season. A 7-0 victory marks the sides’ fourth consecutive fixture in which they have scored seven goals.

Stan Heynes’ four-goal haul headlined the performance, with the forward proving clinical throughout. Nathan MacDonald added a composed double, and George Sheehy joined the scoresheet to cap a wholly dominant display.

The result keeps Rozel firmly among the division’s early pacesetters, as they are one of two sides that still boast a 100% record, joint on 15 points with Sporting Academics First.

Dragoes de Jersey have won just once this season as they remain in search for league form in order to climb the table.

Cup action also brought its share of drama, as St John First progressed in the JFA Bowl with a convincing 6-1 win over Grouville O35s.

After a cagey first half, Jeremy Johnson struck in added time (45+3′) before doubling his tally moments into the second period.

From there, St John took control, Sam English and Scott Simpson widened the margin, followed quickly by a tidy finish from Corbin Boudin and a late effort from Paul Walker.

Luc Le Miere’s well-taken strike was the lone reply for the visitors, who found themselves overwhelmed in the later stages.

Championship 1

The week’s action began with Thursday night entertainment in the P.W. Touzel Memorial Trophy, where St Brelade Reserves overturned a half-time deficit to beat St Peter Reserves 6-2.

After Jack Guille’s brace had put St Peter 2-1 ahead at the interval, St Brelade’s delivered a blistering second half.

Daniel Andrade made an immediate impact, scoring just three minutes after coming off the bench, before goals from Ryan Le Cornu, Leonardo Figuera, Hesbon Chama and Leighton Cavey completed a remarkable turnaround.

A confident second half display sends St Brelade confidently into the next stage of the competition.

There was another eye-catching result in Championship 1, where St Clement Reserves claimed an impressive and important 4-2 victory away to Jersey Wanderers.

Paul Burton’s early header set the tone, before Josh Griffiths produced a man-of-the-match display with a hat-trick that ultimately proved decisive.

Wanderers battled bravely, pulling a goal back through Archie Corbett and briefly drawing level when Hugo Pereira struck shortly after the break, but the visitors’ attacking edge told in the end.

The win lifts St Clement level on points with the leaders St Ouen’s Reserves, whereas the result stunts Wanderers’ progression as they now trail the leaders by four points.

Cherry Women’s Godfrey Division

On the women’s front, Jersey Wanderers Women returned to winning ways, easing to a 7-0 home win over Sports Club of Jersey in the Cherry Godfrey Women’s Division.

Ella Brennand, Samantha Silva and Samantha Reis opened the scoring in what was a comfortable Sunday morning for the red and whites, with Taylor Smythe adding a confident finish on 59 minutes.

Wanderers close the gap on the league’s leaders to three points with their weekend triumph.
