JERSEY Secondary Schools FA U15’s will welcome arch rivals Guernsey to St Peter FC this weekend to compete and hopefully retain the coveted Star Trophy.

Manager Simon Moiani and his 18-strong squad will compete in their first competitive fixture since February, when they travelled to Devon for successful games against Plymouth Argyle U14s and Plymouth Parkway FC U15s.

Victoria College, Haute Vallée, De La Salle, Grainville, Hautlieu and Les Quennevais are all represented throughout the 18, highlighting football’s strength in depth across the Island.

Manager Moiani said: “This competition is steeped in history, going all the way back to 1921.

“We have had great success in this fixture before, especially in last year’s 2-0 win.

“It’s a chance for us to demonstrate the quality of schoolboy football on Island and give some lads a chance to represent Jersey.

“Competing against Guernsey in any sport at any level is always exciting. We take it very seriously, as do they, and these contests are a great opportunity to give our boys a taste of inter-insular competition.

“We want to offer them as much exposure to good-level football as we can, and this will certainly be that.”

After a successful UK tour in February, where they beat Plymouth Argyle U14s 8-0 and drew 4-4 with Plymouth Parkway U15s, Moiani believes his team are ready for the challenge.

“We have a really good squad this year,” the manager continued.

“Guernsey have been strong in recent years, but we are in magnificent form and will be full of confidence.

“But with age-group sport, teams are always changing and we don’t know what sort of outfit Guernsey are going to bring.

“We know where our strengths lie and we plan to use that to our advantage. We have trained well in the last few weeks and the boys are champing at the bit to get out there and create a lifelong memory of another win against Guernsey.”

Kick off is scheduled for 12:30pm on Sunday at St Peter FC.
