Firefighters rescue Islander from fire in St Helier flat

FIREFIGHTERS rescued an Islander from a blazing St Helier flat last night.

The resident was given precautionary checks but was unharmed, Jersey Fire and Rescue confirmed.

The service were called to the third storey flat at around 10.30pm on Saturday night, the service said in a statement.

Two fire engines and nine firefighters were immediately dispatched to the incident where the resident was still inside the property.

The fire service continued: “Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus quickly forced entry before removing the casualty, and extinguished the blaze using high pressure hose reels.

“The casualty received precautionary checks and thankfully was unharmed, however we would like to remind the community of the importance of having working, regularly tested smoke detection in your property.”
