LOCAL football continued to be heavily disrupted by the weather over the weekend, with further postponements adding to an already congested fixture list across the Island.

Jersey football now has ten fixtures across the top four men’s divisions and the women’s league awaiting new dates, with a total of 28 matches postponed across the board and no rescheduled dates yet confirmed.

Despite the ongoing disruption, a handful of fixtures did beat the elements, including key games in Premiership 1 and Premiership 2.

In Premiership 1, St Brelade returned to action for the first time in almost two months and edged a 3-2 home victory over western rivals St Peter.

Declan O’Connell opened the scoring after 13 minutes, his effort from outside the area finding the bottom-left corner. St Peter responded shortly afterwards when Peter Vincenti converted from the penalty spot.

The lively first half continued when Paul McKay restored St Brelade’s lead with a headed finish from a corner, only for Ethan Rankin to level again just before the interval. St Peter goalkeeper Jacob Videgrain produced a series of fine saves to keep the visitors in contention.

The decisive moment arrived five minutes from time when St Peter conceded a penalty via Leo Barker who was dismissed in the process, allowing Ryan Le Cornu to calmly convert from 12 yards and secure an important three points. The win leaves St Brelade comfortably placed in fourth position.

Premiership 2 saw St John produce an impressive second-half comeback to overturn a two-goal deficit against Sports Club of Jersey.

Harry Crowther reduced the arrears midway through the second half before Noah Trench struck twice in the final six minutes of normal time to swing the contest in St John’s favour. Daniel Stevens added a fourth deep into stoppage time to complete the turnaround and move St John above their opponents into fourth place.

In the Tradesmen’s Trophy semi-final, a youthful Trinity First side produced a dominant first-half display to defeat Dragoes de Jersey 5-1.

Goals from Harry Henderson, Layton Tucker, Riley Brennan, Gabriel Medeiros and Alexander Lincoln inside the opening 45 minutes effectively settled the tie, with Trinity advancing to the final while the other side of the draw awaits the completion of rescheduled quarter-final fixtures.

Championship 2 produced a goal-laden encounter at FB Fields, where league leaders St Paul’s Reserves ran out 12-3 winners over Trinity Reserves.

The match featured three hat-tricks, with Liam Irwin scoring all three of Trinity’s goals. Christopher Conning and Ethan Hutcheson each recorded hat-tricks for St Paul’s, while Craig Leitch and Louis Robinson both scored twice. Jayden Stott and Tyler Norman completed the scoring.

Elsewhere, the Sylvia Spinola Memorial Cup tie between Sports Club of Jersey Women and St Peter Women was postponed on Sunday morning. Other fixtures called off included St Clement First v Grouville First, Jersey Wanderers First v St Paul’s First, Rozel Rovers First v St Lawrence First and Rozel Reserves v First Tower United.
