SPORTING Academics and Rozel Rovers continued their flawless starts to the Premiership 2 campaign on Saturday afternoon, both maintaining perfect records as the league’s early pacesetters pulled further clear of the chasing pack.

At Les Quennevais, Sporting Academics were in ruthless form as they swept aside Dragoes de Jersey with an emphatic eight-goal victory. Jamie Savory was the standout performer, producing a superb hat-trick to set the tone for a dominant display that underlined Accies’ title credentials.

Savory’s treble was supported by first half goals from Daniel Dawson and Kealan Wade. Connor Campbell, Diogo Franca and James Walsh added goals of their own in the second half to secure yet another comfortable victory for the title challengers.

Rozel Rovers were equally convincing as they dismantled Sports Club of Jersey 6-0 to remain locked level with Sporting at the summit. In contrast to Accies’ reliance on a talismanic scorer, Rozel’s goals were shared around.

Tom Proffitt, Conor O’Keefe, Nathan MacDonald, George Sheehy, Callum Esnouf and Spencer Gray all found the net in a polished team performance that keeps Rovers neck-and-neck with Accies ahead of their much-anticipated top-of-the-table showdown next Saturday.

Elsewhere in Premiership 2, Trinity’s young side continued their encouraging development with an impressive 4-0 away victory over St John.

Harry Henderson, Layton Tucker and Riley Brennan all found the net before the break, with Henderson adding his second late on to seal a convincing victory as Trinity keep the pressure firmly on the promotion places.

In Championship 2, St Paul’s Reserves showed their resilience with a dramatic late comeback to defeat St John Reserves 2-1, to maintain their unbeaten run after nine matches.

Julius Sumerauer had earlier put the hosts in front, but Barry Beatson drew the sides level with five minutes remaining before Dylan Merchant struck deep into stoppage time to snatch all three points for the league leaders.

Meanwhile, Rozel Reserves secured just their second win of the campaign with a 3-2 win over Trinity Reserves. Liam Irwin netted twice for Trinity, marking his eighth of the season. But goals from Calan Sanderson, Reuben Davy and Dennis Nkosi ensured Rozel emerged victorious in a closely fought encounter.

Local football is now firmly back up to speed, with momentum building across all four divisions as the season enters a decisive phase. The new year also signals the return of knockout football, with the Whewhay Memorial Trophy resuming next weekend at the quarter-final stage.
