JERSEY’S football schedule was left in pieces this weekend, as relentless rain and heavily waterlogged pitches forced a wave of postponements and abandonments across the Island.
The downpour, which began early Saturday morning and showed little sign of easing, left surfaces muddy, unstable and, in many cases, unplayable. Players battled the elements throughout the day, but ultimately the weather dictated the programme.

One of the few fixtures to avoid disruption came on Friday night, where St Clement delivered a commanding 6-0 victory over St Ouen First at a bitterly cold Springfield Stadium.
The league’s top marksman, Karl Hinds, opened the scoring with Dan Burton netting on the stroke of half-time.
Paul Burton, Bruno Da Silva, Seaney McColgan and an own goal took the Anchors to a convincing win. The result temporarily sends St Clement to the summit of Premiership 1, though Jersey Wanderers remain just a point behind with two games in hand.

However, it was Jersey Wanderers who found themselves at the centre of the weekend’s biggest storyline. Their Premiership clash with Grouville was brought to a halt 65 minutes in, with the hosts leading 5-1.

A Jack Hardisty hat-trick and a brace from Harry Scott had the league leaders cruising, but worsening conditions left the referee with little choice but to suspend the match.
Tensions rose after the abandonment as the result now awaits confirmation from the JFA on the final outcome.
Cup football suffered a similar fate. The Rozel Rovers First vs Sporting Academics tie in the Tradesmen’s Trophy was abandoned at half-time with the score locked at 0-0, as the pitch continued to deteriorate under persistent rainfall.
St John First experienced an equivalent outcome to Jersey Wanderers, having established a 3-0 lead over Sports Club of Jersey through Mailen Hughes, Jason Smith and Jeremy Johnson before their Tradesmen’s Trophy tie was abandoned.
Despite the challenging weather, a handful of matches did manage to cross the finish line. Trinity First edged past St Lawrence First in a thrilling 4-3 cup encounter to book their place in the next round.
Trinity produced an impressive first-half display to take a 4-1 lead into the break, with goals from Layton Tucker, Gabriel Medeiros, Paco Fallon and Riley Brennan.
St Lawrence responded through Scott Lemoucheux, Liam Duxbury and Robert Seale, but their second-half rally wasn’t enough to overturn the deficit.
The busiest action of the weekend belonged to Championship 2, where several fixtures miraculously survived the conditions. First Tower produced the most emphatic scoreline with a resounding 10-1 triumph over Trinity Reserves.
Jordan Jones and Calum Peacock headlined the match with a hat-trick each. While Harmon Onyango, Ben Hagin, Hugo Alves and James Le Lievre added to the home side’s emphatic victory, Liam Irwin netted Trinity’s consolation.
Elsewhere, St John Reserves continued their strong form with a 5-1 win against Rozel Rovers Reserves. A Julius Sumerauer brace alongside goals from Finlay Roberts, Christian De Oliveira and Thomas Mollet secured a solid victory as they sit fourth in Championship 2.
St Paul’s Reserves strengthened their position at the top of the table following a lively 5-3 victory over Grouville C.
Craig Leitch opened the scoring before he added a second after 24 minutes, Patrick O’Toole, Luis Aimar Vieira and Dylan Merchant were also on target as St Paul’s cement themselves as the team to beat.
