That is the opinion of Jersey Football Combination present Tim Darwin whose league officials run the annual competition for Jersey-born footballers only who were either born or currently live in the parish they represent.
St Mary this week withdrew from this season’s competition because of injuries and an insufficient number of players because there are not enough footballers currently living in the Island’s smallest parish.
With 11 of the 12 Island parish’s competing regularly in the competition, Darwin says St Mary’s problem is never going to go away because they are a tiny parish and their currently lack of players is something he will ask a league sub committee to look into.
‘A bigger question would be should we be looking to invite St Helier into the competition and split St Helier into several districts? If that happened it could add three or four more teams and that, I feel, would be good for the tournament,’ he said.
