Hugh Raymond has long been banging the drum for Island sport, demanding that the States invest more money in what he deems to be an essential part of Jersey life.
So he was delighted on Monday when Education announced that an extra £6m would be granted over the next two years to implement their five-year sport strategy.
However, although Raymond is pleased to acknowledge the extra funding and ‘much-needed’ investment in sports’ infrastructure, he is worried that the proposed co-ordinating organisation, which could include paid staff, could put volunteers off giving up their spare time.
