The Jerseyman finished in 8 hr 49 min 33 sec to place 24th in the men’s pro race and 31st overall.

He completed the 2.4-mile swim in 51.06, the 112-mile bike ride in 4.48.34 and ran the 26.2-mile marathon in 3.05.27. With transition times of 1 min 51 sec from swim to bike and 2 min 35sec from bike to run, his final time was 8.49.33.

It was the first time Halksworth had qualified for the championships, having won the national title for the second year running in August.

The other Great Britain representative at the event, Paul Amey, who was born and raised in New Zealand, finished in 8.39.20, placing 17th in the men’s pro race and 18th overall.

Over 50 started in this race category and 39 finished, the man taking the World Championship honours being Frederik Van Lierde from Belgium who finished in 8.12.29.

They were among around 2,000 athletes from all over the world taking part in the event, which could be watched live online.
