Tougher this time
Bero Bobus is travelling to next month's NatWest Island Games as the men's beach volleyball defending champion, having won gold in Rhodes 2007 when representing the Cayman Islands.
Beach volleyball first featured in 2007 and has not been contested at either of the Games since. Now representing Jersey, the Croatian, who moved to the Island in 2008, travels to Bermuda next month to defend his title.
Competing with playing partner Paul Gartshore, the pair have been sponsored by local law firm Davies and Ingram. Bobus is realistic about their chances ahead of the Games.
'My chances of winning gold aren't as good as they were six years ago,' he said.
'The bad weather in Jersey has certainly caused us problems. The Caribbean Islanders will have been training hard for the last six months and they'll be ready to go. We simply can't do that in Jersey because of the climate.'
