IGAJ chairman Steve Jacobs described the financial support, which includes a £50,000 grant from Education, Sport and Culture, £30,000 from Treasury and £20,000 from the IGAJ reserve, as a relief.

‘It’s taken the pressure off because it has been a struggle,’ said Jacobs. ‘We never wanted this to be a Games for only those who could afford it. We have been trying to fundraise for a while as the budgeting figure was £2,500 per person.

‘The One Foundation, our principle sponsors, helped lower that by around £250 per person so this latest funding leaves us a lot closer to reducing the cost to £1,000.’
