Morshead (16) lifted the Band 3 title, a senior event, before going on to record a memorable 12-10 fifth-game decider Open singles group win against Kent’s Danny Lawrence, the Band 2 champion.
The latter success was a remarkable achievement as Lawrence is a junior England international, is the current senior schools’ under-16 champion and is ranked seventh in the English Table Tennis Association junior rankings and 113 on the senior list.
Morshead won the opening two games against Lawrence only to be pegged back.
The Jersey player, a product of the JTTA’s Appleby Academy, played in numerous rallies exceeding 20 shots and his relentless chopping style was met by heavy topspin before he came home by the narrowest of margins.
