Starting with a gentle warm-up from West Park, before tackling the tough 38 mile route, west to east, which included a number of challenging and physically draining climbs.
An already demanding route was made more difficult by heavy rain creating slippery hill climbs for the 47 riders, who began the first climb of Ghost Hill, St Aubin’s, in particularly treacherous conditions.
The tussle for first place was hard fought between Vélo Sport and UK Youth clubmates Greg Mansell and Richard Tanguy.
Both men held the lead for large chunks of the race, but Tanguy charged ahead along the Five Mile Road, and began to stretch the gap between himself and his nearest rivals. With not long left in the race, Mansell was able to pull himself back into contention, and a well-timed and powerful sprint put Mansell as the first finisher, powering home in a time of one hour 44 minutes and 34 seconds.
