Having guided Jersey to the win in Aland in 2009 and third place last summer in the Isle of Wight, hopes had been high that the Island could secure a hat-trick of medals.

However, due to the high costs of getting to Bermuda and despite everyone’s best fund-raising efforts, the JFA have made the decision to pull out of the football competition in 2013.

Culkin understands that it is not financially viable to send a team and said: ‘Not going to Bermuda is extremely disappointing but it’s just not possible because we don’t have the money.

‘It’s a great shame though because the players and the management team have been successful in the last two tournaments.’
