Runner-up in this event last year, although overall champion across all the disciplines, Lowethorpe was determined to lift the title this time. His victory in Kent was not, however, an easy ride – he crashed twice during the race and was already carrying an arm injury.

He first crashed while in the lead on a fast bend at the start of the race and before he remounted the entire field had swept past. But he fought his way back to end up a clear winner.

Fellow Moore Jersey Cycling Association Youth Academy members George Brown and Michael Milner entertained the crowd by dicing together for the whole race distance with Milner out-sprinting George for the bronze podium place.
