In glorious sunshine, two goals in the opening nine minutes of the second half put the hosts in control at 3-1 and it was only the closing ten minutes or so did Jersey finally get behind Guernsey’s hard-working and solid defence to create a few nervous moments for the visitors.
Both teams were committed throughout on a warm afternoon and the quality of all the goals drew deserved applause from the crowd of around 400.
Jersey opened brightly with Francis Lekimamati and Michael Veloso shining on the left and right flanks respectively, but once Veloso was replaced at half time with it went Jersey’s main threat as he had the beating of his marker.
Guernsey grew in confidence after they gained their two-goal cushion and it was clear to see that their participation in an inter-county competition this season benefitted them as they maintained a good shape throughout and they moved the ball around confidently.
