After serving a five year term of office Nelson confirmed she will not seek re-election in June due to health reasons.
She said: ‘It was a big decision to have to make and it was not a decision I expected to be making as I thought I was in this for the long haul.
‘I’m stopping for health reasons. Although not serious, I have been advised that something needs to give so I am being sensible now by making a change to my lifestyle.’
