The 44-7 scoreline, including six tries for the Island side, also gave them another precious bonus point.

Jersey’s 16th successive win was achieved on their home ground in St Peter – albeit a different pitch to the usual one – but it was the visitors who opened the scoring.

The early Stourbridge try and conversion to give them a 7-0 lead after ten minutes seemed to shock Jersey into action, however, and their efforts were rewarded with three tries in the next half-hour and a leading half-time score of 25-7.

Stourbridge came out fighting in the second half, but the Jersey defence remained strong and the home team eventually scored the all-important fourth try for a bonus point. That lead was added to by two more tries to give a final score of 44-7.

It was the only game in this league being played on Saturday because of frozen pitches in the UK which means Jersey, for the moment, have extended their lead at the top of the division. They have 85 points after 22 games, with Ealing Trailfinders in second with 75 points after 21 games.

The Jersey game was also affected by the weather, being moved to a different pitch because the main one was still frozen in places at kick-off time.
