It could even happen twice, as fourth-placed Jersey could take top spot, if only for an hour, if they record a bonus-point victory over visiting Blackheath, the oldest rugby club in the world. Though that’s easier said than done.

The 2 pm kick-off at St Peter, an historic occasion in its own right, precedes Ealing Trailfinders’ match with second-placed Rosslyn Park, who are level on points with third-placed Fylde, who travel to Wharfedale.

Trailing by four points, Rosslyn Park will fancy their chances of being top of the tree over Christmas, despite having lost their home encounter 33-17 against Ealing in September. But Park have come on strong since then and, along with Jersey, are the teams in form.
