England triumphed 33-26 over reigning champions New Zealand in a thrilling final at Liverpool’s Echo Arena.
It was the perfect end to the season for the 21-year-old who is taking a brief hiatus from the sport to go travelling for six months in February.
Guthrie said: ‘It was amazing to win but it also feels like a bit of a relief. We’ve been working so hard to beat these teams for so long that it’s nice to actually do it and come away with gold. We haven’t won anything gold for a long time.’
