Having been crowned champion in various disciplines in 2005, 2007 and two years ago, Speller lost his senior men’s crown by a quarter of a point in Thursday’s short boat final on the Outer banks of North Carolina.
Holding world titles in three consecutive championships is a remarkable achievement and Speller was magnanimous in defeat following an exciting 25-minute final.
