Nominated by: Rebecca Quinn

THE director of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service has been nominated for Inspirational Leader of the Year for the “differences his leadership, commitments and visions” make to improving the lives of children and young people.

Nominator Rebecca Quinn, who is a learning disability liaison nurse within CAMHS, said that Darren Bowring has developed a commitment to creating a service where people with intellectual disabilities are not an afterthought, but an integral part of service delivery.

Mr Dowring, who Ms Quinn said leads with “compassion, openness and a clear belief in children,” was praised for his ability to look beyond the immediate pressures of the service and still address what needs to change for future success.

He has created an environment where specialist knowledge is valued and where there is a genuine willingness to listen, learn and challenge existing ways of working, said Ms Quinn.

“Mr Dowring has not only recognised a need for change, he has actively created the opportunity for that change to happen,” she added.
