WARM weather that was a feature of the Jersey summer continued last month, which was the fourth-warmest September on record.
Data released by Jersey Met shows an average temperature of 18.6°C across the month – two degrees higher than the 30-year average for the period from 1991 to 2020.
While sunshine for the month was only 5% higher than average, it was a relatively dry September: a total of 29.6 millimetres of rain was just below half of the average figure.
The September stats follow the three-month summer period, starting 1 June, which was the Island’s hottest in record. A temperature of 20.5°C across the whole period was 2.8°C above average, and 0.9°C above the previous record, set in 2022.
After warm, sunny and dry conditions marked the first few days of October, with temperatures topping 22°C for four consecutive days, the weather changed significantly from Tuesday evening onwards. A total of 37.5mm of rain was recorded at Maison St Louis in St Helier between 5pm on Tuesday and 11am on Wednesday – the equivalent of more than a third of the average rainfall figure for October.
